This week on MD for Moms, I’ll be interviewing pediatric endocrinologist Dr Laura Levin about common childhood presentations of various hormone and gland mediated illnesses. The most common is Juvenile Diabetes, which is a difficult diagnosis due to the significant amount of monitoring and responsive treatments needed to keep a child safe and healthy. Dr. Levin will explain early signs and symptoms of Juvenile Onset Diabetes, which children are at greatest risk and treatment approaches. We will also discuss other endocrine disorders that impact infants through adolescents and what parents need to know about these common and less common presentations.

Dr Laura Levin is a pediatric endocrinologist currently employed by Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago. She has clinics 4 days a week and typically sees roughly 50% diabetes patients and 50% all other endocrine disorders. She has a special passion for diabetes. Dr Levin strongly believes it is important to focus on both the physical health of the patients as well as the mental toll this disease takes on many patients. She has been working at the Lurie Children’s for the past three years and preciously was in private practice for two years. She sees all age patients from babies until 20 years old.
