Having a newborn in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is stressful and scary for the entire family. As a result, parents often have many questions about the NICU and struggle to find answers. Dr. Kurtz will explain common reasons for NICU admissions and ways parents can cope through the process. She will answer many common questions and shed light on ways to improve a baby’s outcome.
Some of the many topics and questions to be explored include: Can mom prevent delivering a baby early? Can and should mom provide breast milk for her NICU baby? Does a hospital need to have a NICU to be a safe place for delivery? Are most preemies ok after discharge? What can you do to support another parent whose baby is in the NICU?
