This week on MD for Moms, I’ll be interviewing Melainie Rogers, MS, RDN, CDN, Certified Eating Disorder Registered Dietitian (CEDRD), founder of BALANCE eating disorder treatment center™ in NYC. We will explore how disordered eating, Anorexia, Bulimia and Binge Eating Disorder may impact pregnancy and motherhood.
Often women will diet and exercise with great precision postpartum to ‘lose the baby weight. When does his behavior go from normal to detrimental to perhaps dangerous? How can a woman who struggles with an eating disorder face pregnancy in the healthiest way? Can she manage postpartum without returning to old negative behaviors?
Our babies need us to be healthy and well, and our children benefit from seeing us eating in a healthy manner. Modeling a poor relationship with food may usher in similar attitudes by our kids. Showing children healthy eating patterns sets them up for an appropriate relationship with food. Melainie will also detail what to do if you feel you may be struggling with an eating disorder and how to get help.
